EQUIMOB at India Accessibility Summit Conclave 2024
Prajwal Nagesh, doctoral researcher from the EQUIMOB project, participated in a panel and shared findings from his thesis and the larger EQUIMOB project at the India Accessibility Summit & State Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities’ Conclave 2024, organised by The Association of People with Disability (APD, India).
The panel titled, ‘Navigating Accessibility: Future of Inclusive Transport’ highlighted a range of issues across scales – from transport app designs to what horsepower vehicles are provided for persons with disabilities in low-lying areas of Bangalore, decentralisation of transport governance, and even the size of a pavement.
There seemed to be a growing acceptance and recognition of qualitative evidence in the summit, which indicated the potential of qualitative analysis to capture intersecting disadvantages and aid transport policies. Furthermore, the panel and the event embarked on a positive step by holding equity in transport to the same rigour as other sectors.
