EQUIMOB at the WU Gender and Diversity Conference 2022

On 25th March 2022, researchers from EQUIMOB presented findings from their on-going research at the WU Gender and Diversity Conference. The session titled ‘Intersectional inequalities to urban transport: Narratives from India and Bangladesh took place online. The panel explored the impact of unequal transport access on the lives of older adults and women in South Asian cities. EQUIMOB researchers presented findings from their ongoing research work.

The session explored how social categories including gender, age, disability, income, geographical location intersect, creating unequal travel experiences for different population groups when accessing public transport. The presentations were followed by an interactive Q&A on a range of themes arising from the project research such as remote data collection, safety, governance, policy, and working with stakeholders, among others.

The presentations were as follows:

  5. Unequal access to public transport and transport-related social exclusion of older adults in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Selim Jahangir
  6. Exploring women’s safe travels in the Delhi Metro using story completion. Saakshi Joshi
